In New Mexico:

Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said that when a 23-year-old graduate student at Eastern New Mexico University claimed Monday that she had been attacked in an anti-gay hate crime, something didn't add up.

Miranda Prather, 23, told police that she was attacked in her apartment Monday - one day after she was targeted as a homosexual on an anti-gay flier.

But Wednesday night, police arrested Prather, charging her with false reporting and seven counts of harassment. She is being held on $8,000 cash bond.
